Chewbacca 003

Star Wars: Chewbacca #003.

Issue starts off with Jaum and Tyvak leaving the mines and entering a speeder. They speak of the Empire and the deal they made with them.

Next scene shows Chewbacca holding up a frame to keep rubble from collapsing on himself, Zarro, Arrax, and the rest of the miners. They all make it to safety, but within the mines and not outside.

The downfall to this is that the deadly beetles that live in the mines are no longer controllable and return. Chewie backs all the miners up and caves in the tunnel with a blast from his bowcaster, seperating the miners from the beetles.

The miners then gather and begin devising a plan to escape. Zarro hands Chewie a shovel and the wookiee begins digging upwards, climbing through a shaft he eventually finds. He also experiences some flash backs of when he was captured by Trandoshans and how he’s claustrophobic.

Eventually, Chewie makes his way out and lowers a rope for the miners to climb out and escape. Once everyone is up on the surface, Zarro states that her and Chewie are going to go stop Jaum, because if he’s allowed to continue his mining operation, especially at a larger scale with Imperial help, the planet will eventually decay.

A short while later at the spaceport…
Zarro and Chewie makes their way to see a junk dealer named Sevox, who has implants for eyes and basically sees through droid eyes. Zarro requests aid from Sevox. She explains to Chewie that Sevox is prepared for the arrival of the Empire or the Rebellion and from what it appears, by prepared, she means ready to take action against.

The next scene shows Jaum and Tyvak in a bar. One of the guards caught ahold of one of the miners that escaped, which is a sign to the two that everyone else did, as well. Jaum questions the miner, who only reconfirms their suspcions. Jaum then kills the miner by making him inhale the mist that circulates within Jaums headgear.

The final scene shows an Imperial Star Destroyer going through hyper space. Within the hangar, Stormtroopers ready themselves with two AT-ST’s. It also shows that Commander Kai is the Imperial in-charge. Issue ends.

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars: Chewbacca #004 (comic)

Chewbacca 004

Star Wars: Chewbacca #004.

Chewbacca, Lageose, and Zarro head towards the spaceport on a speeder. Lageose informs them that a Star Destroyer had entered their system. As they ride the speeder, Chewie loads a droid with explosives.

As they arrive at the spaceport, Lageose makes a request that if they could get him the head of an Imperial RA-7 Protocol Droid, because the optics in them are far superior to the one he’s currently using.

Lageose leaves with the speeder, but Chewie and Zarro stay at the spaceport, Zarro dressed as a bounty hunter and Chewies dressed as a “war droid”. They tell the Scout Trooper guards that Jaum is expecting them and explain that they’re there to guard the shipment. The scout troopers allow them entrance and upon arriving inside the port, they find Jaum with a bunch of stormtroopers and an AT-ST.

Zarro tries to be slick and lie to Jaum and a Stormtrooper, saying that the Empire hired local security. Jaum doesn’t buy it and draws forth a blaster, telling Zarro to take off her helmet. At this, Chewie deploys two large guns and begins mowing down Stormtroopers.

Upon pausing, a few stormtroopers think that the “War droid” is defenseless and rush Chewie, who rips the droid facade off and takes out the troopers with his bare hands.

As the stormtroopers fall, Tyvak the Shistavanen, comes out of the shuttle and tells Chewie that he’ll end him. He leaps to the wookiee and disarms him from his bowcaster. The AT-ST begins to go active, but Chewie starts up a random engine which exhaust burns and probably kills Tyvak, while at the same time lauching the engine forward, destroying the AT-ST, as well.

Zarro and Chewie then begin firing blasters at Jaum, who boards the shuttle and takes off. The droid rigged with explosives also on the shuttle, but nothing happens. Jaum yells back at the wookiee and his companion, saying that when he returns he’ll bring the entire Empire with him.

As Zarro and Chewie make their way to leave, they’re captures by scout troopers and the issue ends.

Although this issue had a lot more action, it was still a boring issue. So far, I’ve disliked the comic. I still feel that although the comic series is named after Chewbacca, he’s still just he co-star, or side character. He doesn’t seem to be the main character at all, which is a disappointment. I also feel the story has been very bland and uninteresting so far. I’m actually hoping the comic series ends soon so they can pursue other stories.

Well, I’ll be doing three more recaps tonight, so stay tuned!

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars #012 (comic)

Star Wars 012
Star Wars issue #012!

Nar Shaddaa.
Han and Leia continue to hold their blasters to Dengar. Han tells the bounty hunter that he’s outgunned. Dengar pulls out a thermal detonator, but then Chewie gets up, raises the bounty hunter over his head and throws him off the side of a building, the thermal detonator exploding with Dengar.

Han begins asking Chewie if he’s okay and the where-abouts of Luke. Leia notices a squad of TIE Fighters heading towards Grakkus palace and suggests that they follow them.

At Grakkus collosseum, Luke is in the hands of the rancor. He speaks out to Kenobi, saying he could use a miracle. Suddenly, the rancor’s shock collar is triggered, and Kongo releases Luke. Grakkus is surprised by this and wonders who could have done it.

The magnaguards that protect Grakkus are cut to pieces by a lightsaber wielded by the Gamemaster. Grakkus is surprised, but the Gamemaster then reveals that he’s been an Imperial Agent the entire time and that Grakkus is under arrest. Imperial troops begin to move in (all of them seem to be dressed in the TIE pilot uniforms).

The Imperials seem to have the place on lock down. Some are even in the Arena’s fighting area, making their way towards Luke and the fallen rancor.

While there’s quite the commotion going on in the arena, R2-D2 makes his way to where Grakkus keeps his Jedi stash and finds Lukes lightsaber.

Meanwhile, Grakkus being escorted by the Gamemaster and TIE pilots, he gets mad at the Gamemaster, rather, Agent 5241. The Agent then states, “Did you really think you could stockpile a collection of Jedi artifacts this big without the Empire taking notice?” Grakkus collected so much Jedi artifacts, that in one panel in the comic issue prior to this one, he said he owns bones of Jedis.

Apparently, Grakkus had a failsafe and triggered the arenas protocol, grakkus five, which released a large E.M.P. wave, that disabled all blasters within the arena. Grakkus then begins to hand-to-hand combat the TIE pilots. I enjoyed this part, cause it’s rare to actually see a Hutt fight this way.

The blasters weren’t the only things disabled by the E.M.P. wave. It also affected the shock collar that was keeping the rancor under control. Now Kongo was free to attack anything and everything around him.

As Luke started to come back to conciousness, the TIE pilots attempted to detain him. R2-D2, back in the crowd, shoots Luke’s lightsaber out. Luke grabs it and cuts down the TIE pilots around him.

During this time, Leia, Sana, and Han are in the arena’s halls. The retreating crowd of arena watchers rush pass them, the rancor in hot pursuit. As the rancor comes rushing in, pieces of the arena fall and Sana gets trapped within. Chewie, Han, and Leia learn that their blasters aren’t working, but then R2 appears out of no where and launches lightsabers at all of them.

I loved this scene, because it shows that the three used lightsabers before Han used one to cut open the tauntaun in The Empire Strikes Back. I also like that Han added, “I’d settle for a good blaster.”

lightsabers

The three begin to cut through the Imperials in their way.

In the middle of the arena, Luke and Agent 5241, begin to fight each other. The Imperial Agent winning; however, Grakkus siezes the Agent and begins choking him. Too bad for Grakkus that the Hutt wore a lightsaber necklace, because the Agent grabbed ahold of one of the lightsabers on it, ignited it, and defeated Grakkus.

Grakkus mechanical legs get cut off and then he plummets to the ground.

The Imperial Agent orders to the TIE pilots to get the boy with the lightsaber, but they reply that they’ve all got lightsabers.

As Han and Luke fight back-to-back, Luke tells Han that a lightsaber doesn’t look bad on him, in which Han replies that he’s just trying not to cut his own face off. Which shows that to wield a lightsaber, it takes a large amount of practice and being Force Sensitive helps a great deal. Especially since a lightsaber is essentially an extension to it’s force sensitive wielder.

After a bit, actual Stormtroopers finally enter the scene, and since they weren’t there earlier when the E.M.P. wave went off, their blasters are operational and they begin to use them.

Luke says he needs to gather all the artifacts and holocrons that Grakkus had stashed away, but Chewie holds him back. Han tells him that he’ll go find Leia and Sana.

As the scene moves on, it shows Leia hitting away at debris in search of Sana. Personally, I don’t think this to be the wisest choice, since she’s not trained with it, she may accidentally cut Sana in half. All turns out well, because Leia does find her and saves her. As the two retreat back to the ship, Sana tells Leia the story of how Han and her weren’t really married and they faked it. Eventually, the Rebels escape in the Millenium Falcon and the Volt Cobra.

Stormtroopers stand before Agent 5241, Grakkus the Hutt cuffed and apparently taken as a prisoner. Before the Imperial Agent is Darth Vader, who literally crushes a holocron in his barehands. He then tells the Agent to tell him everything that happened.

The final scene shows Luke, alone, holding onto Obi-Wan’s journal.

As I’ve stated in my previous post, I’m very behind on updating this blog and I apologize for it. I’ll be trying to fix this within the next few days, so please stay updated with the site. I’ll be making more twitter posts, as well.

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars #11 (comic)

Star Wars 011Star Wars issue #11.

Nar Shaddaa.
The scene starts off with a large crowd entering Grakkus the Hutt’s palace, which is where the Colosseum is located. Amongst the crowd is R2-D2.

Scene flips over to Chewbacca and C-3PO, who seem to be devising a plan on how to enter Grakkus’ palace, when suddenly Chewbacca is electrocuted and stunned due to an shock bolt shot onto him by Dengar, a Bounty Hunter hired by Jabba the Hutt.

Dengar demands to know Han’s where-abouts. C-3PO grabs ahold of the shock bolt, having the shock and stun effect transfer over to him, but releasing the wookiee. Drengar then makes a comment about the droid being crazy, then he provokes Chewie to attack.

Once again, the scene switches over, but this time to Luke who is still held captive by Grakkus and the Gamemaster. Grakkus inquires if Luke is ready and the Gamemaster tells him that Luke is as ready as he’ll ever be. With that, Luke states that if he wins, he’s still just going to be ending up as a captive to which Grakkus states that no one is paying to see Luke win.

Apparently, Grakkus send people to Luke’s ship and ended up uncovering the journal of Obi-Wan Kenobi that Luke had stashed away. As Luke protests, Grakkus and the Gamemaster hand him a lightsaber and leave. The doors then open and upon the loud speaker come the words, “Behold, the last of the Jedi!”

As Luke looks around at the crowd, the people seem to be disappointed, stating that Luke is just a child and isn’t a real Jedi. Some even make the speculation that he’s just a padawan, or at least, once was.

Kongo the disembowler takes the scene, who is a Rancor with robotic/cybernetic parts here and there. His entire right arm is robotic for sure.

Luke ignites the saber that was given to him and readies himself.

The next scene shows Leia, Han, and Sana. Leia is still bitter to Han, who finally tells her the story of how Sana and him got married- all just a stage show for one of Han’s schemes. Sadly, when the door Leia was hiding behind opens, she’s no where to be seen, showing that she probably didn’t hear any of what he said.

Back on Nar Shaddaa, Chewie fights with Dengar and surprisingly, Dengar put up a decent fight against the wookiee, but it comes to a halt. Chewie has the bounty hunter by thr throat, but then Dengar pulls out a thermal knife, or flaming knife, which when ignited, makes Chewie’s fur catch on fire and eventually the wookiee falls to the ground.

Back at the colloseum, Luke continues to fight the rancor. Luke swings the lightsaber to one of Kongo’s metallica limbs and nothing happens, due to Kongo being augmented with deep-core drilling armor, so the heat of the lightsaber has no affect.

Grakkus and the Gamemaster are shown talking to each other. The Gamemaster seems a bit disappointed at the display happening. Grakkus tells the Gamemaster that Luke should die, so that way he doesn’t sully the legend of the Jedi. As Grakkus is talking, the Gamemaster sneaks away from the Hutt and when alone, makes a call to some TIE fighters. He reveals that he’s an Imperial Agent (Agent 5241) and that if they want the Luke, they’ll have to make their move now.

Luke then decides to attempt to use the Force, but not having any time to meditate, the Rancor nearly stampedes over him. Luke goes flying and ends up motionless on the ground. It then shows R2-D2 in the stands, watching the battle.

Back to the Wookiee versus Bounty Hunter fight, it seems that Dengar is now winning. Chewie is weakened at this point, but still makes attempts to fight back. Finally, when Chewbacca is on the ground, he yells, “Where is Han Solo!?”

A blaster bolt is fired into Dengar’s back. Han and Leia stand on top of Sana’s ship, blasters ready, and Han says, “Right here, ugly. Now take your damn hands off my friend.”

I feel that they stressed the “friend” part due to the old EU stating that Chewie owed a life debt to Han and people speculating that they weren’t really friends. Anyway, so ends this issue.

I’m pretty far behind on updating recaps and such, but I’ll try and catch up. So please keep on checking the site for updates, I’ll eventually get around to doing more entries.

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars: Chewbacca #002 (comic)

Chewbacca 002

Issue #002.

The issue starts off with Zarro showing Chewbacca where the main entrance to Jaum’s mines are, along with where the air vents are. Zarro informs Chewie that some times the larva causes the air shafts to collapse and that they’ll have to find one that is stable. This is the first time, I believe, that it shows Chewie is claustrophobic. It looks like he protests going down a shaft, to the point Zarro even states it’ll be a tight fit.

Getting captured on purpose, Zarro is then returned tot he mines, where her father, Arrax, and the other miners are surprised to see her. She informs them that she and a friend are there to help. Zarro then searches the mines for a secluded part that has an air shaft. Through a tracking device, Chewie follows Zarros every move. When he feels that she found a spot, he finds the closest air vent. Upon entering the air vent, Chewie has a flashback of being taken by Trandoshans. Captured by nets, placed in metal containers and boxes. I believe this is showing why Chewie is claustrophobic.

With a roar, Chewbacca pulls himself out of the air vent, refusing to use it. While this is happening, Arrax is speaking with Jaum. He pleads with him to spare his daughter. Jaum then informs him that they’ll be sold as slaves, since he’s getting droids to replace the miners. Another miner hears this and through rage, lifts a shovel and attempts to his Jaum with it. The Cathar who accompanies Jaum draws his blaster and kills the miner. Arrax and Zarro run into the mines, yelling that the crime lord is going to kill them.

As the miners are lined up against the wall, Jaums henchmen hold blasters to them. They order the miners to turn around. Chewbacca’s head then appears from a hole in the roof of the mines, showing that he did take the air vent after all. Zarro’s face brightens as Chewie drops down, disassembling the droids and killing the henchmen. He then gives Zarro his bowcaster to hold as he “MacGyvers” a power droid.

An armed droid comes into the area, telling the miners to get back to work. It then begins opening fire upon the Wookiee, who uses the rod contraption hooked up to the power droid, to short circuit his new enemy.

On the surface, one of the henchmen’s runs up to Jaum, declaring the miners had conjured up a demon and that the demon was killing people. Jaum then blasts the henchman, thinking him just to be under the influence of spice.

As Chewie makes his way towards the entrance/exit of the mines, a henchman stands watch with his blaster out. Chewie lifts the power droids and smashes it onto the guard. Arrax then hands Chewie his bowcaster. The Wookiee then exits the mines, but as he looks down into a nearby larva cart, his eyes widen.

Far away, the Cathar watches Chewie through the scope of his sniper rifle with Jaum behind him.  The next panel shows the view through the scope, showing a massive explosion and then rubble.

I really want to say that I’m enjoying this comic, but I’m not. It’s a tad bit boring and although Chewbacca is the title and the story is supposedly about him, I feel that the story is more about Zarro than anything else and that Chewie is yet again a sidekick character in a comic with his name as the title. The art is amazing, though. I’m absolutely in love with it. I feel that it’s the best art style among the new Star Wars comics so far. I just hope the story picks up soon.

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars: Chewbacca #001 (comic)

Chewbacca 001

Issue #001.

Chewbacca.
Part I.

It is a period of renewed hope for the rebellion.

The evil galactic Empire’s greatest weapon, the Death Star, has been destroyed by Chewbacca, warrior son of the planet Kashyyyk… with some help from his trusty sidekick Han and his friends Luke and Leia. But Chewie is not one to grandstand. There is still much to accomplish.

The Battle of Yavin reverberates through the galaxy as our wookiee hero embarks on a very important and personal secret mission. Unfortunately for Chewbacca, his loaner spacecraft proves to be what they refer to in the Outer Rim as a “hunk of junk”….

The issue starts off with a father named Arrax and his daughter named Zarro speaking to what seems to be a loan shark, crime lord, or a gangster named Jaum. He states that Arrax owes him money and that he has a means for the two to pay him back on time, down in the Andelm Beetle Caverns.

The next panel shows a glowing vein like structure that’s protruding from within a cavern. Zarro speaks to her father, telling him that it’s ridiculous that they’ve been down there for days. She inquires how much they owed Jaum, also stating that the crime lord offered to buy droids. Arrax tells her that Jaum isn’t going to let anyone go, but she will be leaving that very day.

Arrax helps his daughter get into a cart full of glowing larva. She tells him that there’s room for two, but Arrax tells her he can’t see the both of them escaping together and that he’ll find another way out. She tells him that she doesn’t want to leave him behind, but Arrax tells her never to go home nor return to the cavern.

Outside of the cavern, the day seems bright and sunny. Seems the greenery is well on this planet. Zarro hides herself under a small tree as she hears a guard yell that one of the locals is missing. She then uses that opportunity to run for it. The guards spot her and attempt to capture her, but she manages to make it to a speeder bike and she high tails it out of there.

The next panel shows Chewbacca, laying in a field of flowers, his eyes closed and a smile on his face. A pure look of contentment. It gets ruined when he hears a buzz and some other electronic sounds. He looks to his A-Wing (which looks more like a variant of an A-Wing. Looks a bit larger than what I’m normally used to, probably customly made just for a large wookiee) and roars.

Zarro is seen getting thrown out of a police station. She yells back at the officer throwing her out that she’s not lying. As the doors close, the officer informs her thgat Jaum paid off the council. She then gets onto the speeder bike she stole and rides off.

Chewbacca peers into a box he’s been holding, then closes it. He checks on the damaged parts of the A-Wing and removes it. He then carries it off into a nearby city.

At a junk shop, Zarro is attempting to sell the speeder bike, but the junk yard owner refuses. He states that he knows the speeder belongs to Jaum and that he’s already called the crime lord and reported it. As the junk yard owner chases after Zarro who attempts to flee the scene, Chewbacca pulls him back by the collar, asking for the part he needs. He drops some money into the junk yard owners hand, but is then told that it’s still not enough for parts. Chewbacca gets mad, but the junk yard owner tells him that he could roar all he wants, but he still needs more credits.

Chewbacca immediately heads to a gambling house to gamble on a game of Sabacc. I guess it’s true that many gambling holes know what happen when wookiee’s lose a game, because the droid hosting the game appears to be cautious, if not frightened. In the background, Zarro can be seen sneaking into the establishment, but Chewbacca notices her.

A Cathar with a few henchmen enter the gambling hole. The cathar issues the order to spread out and cover exits. Zarro seems worried and hides. A droid brings Chewbacca a meal he ordered. The Cathar looks to Chewie, calls to him. Chewie glares at the Cathar, who then says, “Neverrrmind.” I feel that he’s scared of Chewbacca, but who wouldn’t be? He is a very strong and large wookiee.

As the cathar and henchmen leave, Chewbacca looks down near him and below the table hides Zarro. She thanks Chewbacca and then hints that she’s hungry and wants to eat his food by making comments that it smells and looks good. Chewie gives her the food and she scarfs it down eagerly.

Outside, Chewbacca and the girl converse. More on Zarro’s side. She states she doesn’t understand wookiee, so it’s more along the lines of a one way conversation. I’m not entirely sure if Chewbacca is carrying the replacement part for his ship, or if he’s still carrying the broken part, but he and Zarro leave the city. He packs Zarro on his back, all the while carrying this heavy part for his ship.

Zarro asks many questions, his name, if he could help her. She basically starts going off on her entire story. When they finally make it back to Chewie’s A-Wing, she inquires if he’ll help her before he goes. Chewbacca roars and points upwards, suggesting he has to leave. She then starts giving him a guilt trip and Chewie growls at this.

A little later…
The wookiee begins repairing the ship, using a blow torch. I’m not sure if that part was a replacement part and he’s installing it, or he’s just attempting to repair the already broken part. Zarro continues to talk the wookiee’s ears off, telling him about having to be a slave and that her dad is pretty much a slave in the cavern. I believe this sets Chewbacca off due to his people being used as slaves by the Imperials, because he walks to the cockpit of the A-Wing and pulls his Bowcaster from it. He raises it into the air and roars loudly. Zarro gets excited and asks if he’s really going to help out. She gives him a hug and thanks him.

The final panel shows Jaum and henchmen meeting up with Imperials in a discrete location. They discuss business. The Imperials need high quality dedlanite in high quantities. Jaum assures them that he’d be able to provide that, which also means that since Chewie is on the way to the caverns, he’ll also have some Imperial troubles to deal with.

Well, that was the first issue of the Chewbacca series. The story is slow, but the art is amazing. In-fact, the art is the most colorful out of all the series. It’s very beautiful. I’m definitely looking forward to future issues.

Well, this is the final issue that makes me officially caught up with current canon comics; however, I’ve not done recaps on all of them, although I’ve read them all. With that being said, be looking forward to more recaps to come. I’ll be back tracking the issues I haven’t made entries on and get them posted on here to add into the archives.

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars: Shattered Empire #003 (comic)

Shattered Empire 003

Issue #003.

Outer Rim. The Wretch of Tayron.
Imperial Security Bureau Black Site.
Kes Dameron and Sakas, the Mikkian, are scene overlooking the Imperial base. There are five Rebel teams consisting of Striek One, Strike Two, Strike Three, Strike Four (Kes and Sakas), and Strike Leader (Han Solo). Strike four see an opening and Kes immediately takes a rocket launcher and blasts down an AT-ST, which falls and brings down a wall to the base with it. He immediately radios in that there’s an opening now in the south east side of the base. Han then issues the order for all strike teams to head there.

As Strike Four moves forward, Sakas notices a trooper just about to attack Kes. As she calls out to him, Chewbacca appears, grabbing the trooper by the throat and throwing him against rubble. Kes thanks the wookie as Han announces for all Strike teams to form on him. Han inquires the where abouts of Goldenrod to Chewbacca. It seems the Wookie left him behind. He then orders Chewie to go get him. After a bit of small talk with Kes, Solo turns to see Chewie returning with C-3PO.

Theed, Naboo.
The Queen of Naboo asks Captain Korro (her security chief) what’s going on. The chief explains that there are typhoon strength storms all around the planet, even the Gungans confirmed it. Most storms would diminish on land fall, but these are only getting stronger. Shara then explains that it’s the Imperials conducting a remnant, perhaps altering the weather around the planet using an orbital array of some kind. Leia adds that they’re probably satellites or small multiple vessels. Shara adding that at least one Star Destroyer would accompany the array.

The two Rebels look to each other, then Leia looks to the Queen and tells her they need ships with pilots. Captain Korro states they barely have any combat trained pilots these days due to the Emperor demilitarizing Naboo years ago. The Queen then tells the captain that it’s not entirely true. Queen Sosha Soruna escorts the group down to a wing that was sealed off after the trade federation invaded. She tells them that Queen Neeutnee moved Fighter Operations out of the palace during the Clone Wars as a security measure and that no one has been down there in over twenty years.

As they enter the hangar, Leia pauses, saying she feels cold. As she says this, the panel shows a transparent image of Darth Mauls face. Could it be that his essence still resides in these halls? Not that he died here, but he did wreak havoc and perhaps the Force (since Leia is Force sensitive) is feeling the dark vibration within it? After all, Qui-Gon did die there. Anyway, so Shara lets them know that there are three Royal N-1 Starfighters that have power, but they’re all equipped for astromech assist and that there are no droids here, so if they do fly, it’ll all be manual controlled. She states that she could manage it, but one fighter against whatever’s up there- Leia then interrupts saying, “Two. I know how to fly.” Shara detests at first, saying that it’s her assignment to keep her out of harms way, when Leia states that it’s a god thing she’ll be needing a wingmate then. She then states that it’ll be two of them, then Queen Sosha interrupts and says, “Make that three.” Apparently, the Queen was combat-certified the year before she was elected.

Back at the Imperial base, it shows a fire fight between Stormtroopers and the Strike force. An Imperial officer tells the Stormtroopers to hold off the Rebels, because he needs time to initiate the data purge. The Rebels eventually win the fire fight and stop the Imperial officer before he could erase any data. The Officer surrenders. Han tells C-3PO to hurry and gather as much data as he can. 3PO notices that there is an ongoing operation titled  Cinder. He informs the team that a part in this operation is targeting Naboo.

Back on Naboo, the Queen is wiping off her make-up. She tells Korro that his objections are noted, but she wants him to make sure all civilians are rescued before any of her soldiers escape. She then joins Leia and Shara. Leia suggests that Lt. Bey take charge, since she’s more experienced than they are. The Queen agrees and tells Shara than they await her orders. This part got me. I literally felt chills. Three strong female roles, three important women in the Star Wars universe, Princess Leia, Shara Bey (Poe Dameron’s mother), and the current Queen of Naboo (which is iconic, since Padme was Queen for a while and is also Leia’s mother).

As the three Royal N-1 Starfighters leave the hangar, it shows Naboo under heavy weather. Rain, lightning, thunder, flooding, and fires. The starfighters make their way to space, spotting the Star Destroyer. Shara informs them that ship-to-ship comms are working, dispite the jamming happening planetside. Leia states that her port ionization chamber is choppy and getting power surges. Shara then tells her to run pulse through the pressure manifold to clear it up. Leia does as she’s told and it works. Leia seems impressed with the Lt., who at the same time states that the Star Destroyer is a Deuce (which is an Imperial II-class Star Destroyer).

Lt. Bey tells the Princess and Queen to work on destroying the satellites at all costs and that she’ll distract the Imperials from stopping them. As the highnesses fly towards the satellites, Shara flies towards the Star Destroyer. Sure enough, a handful of TIE fighters disembark from it. Shara takes out some TIE’s while Leia and Sosha continue to take out satellites; however, Shara gets hit and she begins to lose hydraulics with TIE’s on her tail. She tells Leia not to write her husband and son the letter that Leia was writing in the last issue. Leia then tells her that she won’t need to, as the Princess takes down the TIE hot on her trail.

The Star Destroyer releases more TIE fighters and Shara feels that it’s the end. She tells Leia it’s been a privilege flying with her and Leia returns the gesture.

Suddenly, on the comms, Lando comes on: “Naboo Fighters, this is General Lando Calrissian aboard the Mellcrawler II! We are engaging the Imperial Vessels, you may disengage!” It then shows the Mellcrawler II with a group of X-Wings, Y-Wings, and A-Wings. The Rebels then engage the Imperials, eventually winning the day. This scene really got me pumped. It felt good to see great characters, chemistry, starships, and the perfect timing that took place.

Rebel Fleet Command.
Muster Point: Vergence.
Leia inquires why Shara didn’t want her to write her son and husband if she did die and Shara states it’s because she has admired the Princess and just didn’t want to add to her burdens.  They appear to be docking into a hangar. Leia looks out the window, spotting Han and Kes. She inquires if Kes is her husband and Shara presses up against the glass of the ship, smiling, saying that it is. Leia then tells her that she won’t keep her from him any longer. Shara and Kes embrace each other when Leia and Shara leave the shuttle. In the background, you can see Leia having her arm around Han’s as they walk away.

What a great series so far! I was a bit hesitant with the first issue, but these two last issues have really changed my mind. I’m enjoying this series and definitely consider it to be within the Top 3 of the new Star Wars canon comic series. Well, I still got issue #4 in-front of me, along with the first issue of Star Wars: Chewbacca, so I better get to reading them, because I still have recaps to do for them, as well.

I apologize for doing these issue recaps so late. I’ve been busy with life and have only now found time to do them.

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars: the Force Awakens trailer #3

There are a few things that I’d like to point out. In the scene where Rey is crying, she seems to be crying over a body. That body is furry. There also seems to be a metal line, which looks a bit like Chewbaccas bandalier. It would also explain why Chewie is missing in particular scenes with Han, such as when Han is leading BB-8, Finn, and Rey to that building. Also when it appears that Han is telling Finn and Rey about the Force and the Jedi. Not to mention, the scene where Leia is crying and hugging Han. Could she have just found out about Chewie’s death?

The next thing I’d like to point out is, the building where Han is leading BB-8, Finn, and Rey to that has all the flags hanging outside, there is a Mandalorian flag hanging smack dab in the center. Also, the scene with Kylo Ren and posse, the figure on the far left looks a bit like Boba Fett. Now, I’m not saying it is Boba, but it could be someone in Mandalorian armor. After all, we did just see a Mandalorian flag.

Just giving you all something to think about and what I’ve noticed and some of my assumptions.

May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars #010 (comic)

Star Wars 010

Issue #010.

The issue starts off with Han, Sana, and Leia being chased by a Star Destroyer. Sana makes comments about how poor Leia’s shooting is. She also tells Leia that her ship, the Volt Cobra, is the fastest in the galaxy and not the Falcon. Sana then puts the Cobra into hyperdrive, allowing the trio to escape from Imperial clutches.

The next panel returns us to Chewie and C-3PO. Chewie is piloting the Millenium Falcon while 3PO does what he does best- complain! Upon landing in Nar Shaddaa, 3PO is sent to explore the streets and attempt to find out any information he can on the where abouts of Luke. Near an alley, he meets with some shady looking droids, who trick him into entering the alley. There, they attempt to disassemble him, but Chewie thwarts their actions, ripping them limb from limb.

Upon the next panel, it shows Luke, cuffed and being escorted into what appears to be an arena. He is then introduced to a hooded, bare chested character using the alias of Gamemaster. He tells Luke that he will fight for the Hutts amusement, but at the same time, the Gamemaster will teach Luke combat. I’m getting the feeling that this character is a prior Jedi, Padawan, or someone who is Force Sensitive.

The Gamemaster explains to Luke that the Jedi Temple is no more and it has been turned into the Imperial Palace. He orders Lukes cuffs to be deactivated and tosses Luke his saber. Luke asks what will stop him from escaping with the lightsaber and the Gamemaster replies, “Me. And also them.” and by them, he means the magnaguards surrounding the two.

Igniting his saber, the Gamemaster tells Luke that he wants to see what the kid gots. Luke then ignites his saber and the two begin combat. The Gamemaster knocks Luke down and tells him to try harder. The farm boy stands up and continues combat.

The next panel shows Chewbacca and C-3PO in a cantina. 3PO questions the bar tender, telling him he knows Luke was taken by Grakkus the Hutt. The bartender tells 3PO they don’t serve droids or Wookies in his establishment. Chewie roars and 3PO translates, “Chewbacca says… anyone who doesn’t wish to be physically inconvenienced should perhaps find another establishment in which to consume their beverages. And they should do so… with some haste.” Since this is Nar Shaddaa, I’m assuming a lot of cantina goers feel that they’re pretty tough, so they don’t heed 3PO’s words. It then shows people flying out of the cantina window.

The next panel shows Luke now battling Magnaguards as the Gamemaster talks to Grakkus the Hutt. The Hutt inquires how Luke’s training is coming along. The Gamemaster tells him that Luke still has much to learn. Grakkus doesn’t like this because a lot of the crime lords of Nar Shaddaa will be attending the Last stand of the Jedi. The Gamemaster inquires what beast Grakkus will be sending in to fight Luke, Grakkus then shows him a creature in a large cage. The creature isn’t really shown, but by the clawed hand sticking out from it, I’m assuming it’s a rancor.

“Han Solo, the rebel…”

Sana and Han discuss their current situation, Sana still referring to Han as her husband. Something new is revealed in this panel, that the two were married on Stenness (if it really was a legit wedding). While the two bicker, Leia is communicating with the Rebel fleet. She tells Sana and Han that Luke is in trouble on Nar Shaddaa.Sana wants nothing to do with it, but Leia then offers to pay her. Sana tells her she doesn’t want money, but rather her husband, Han. Leia agrees, even thought Han is still denying everything, and the trio set off to Nar Shaddaa.

Back on Nar Shaddaa, Chewie has a bunch of people knocked out and on the floor of a rooftop. He’s dangling the bartender of the Cantina off the edge. 3PO interrogates the bar tender, who eventually spills the beans. Chewie then releases him, dropping him off the edge and into a dump speeder that was passing by.

The next panel shows a Gungan, who talks oddly enough, like Jar Jar. I’m not sure if it is Jar Jar, but this gungan is wearing a headband and half of it is covering one of his eyes. He also has some earings adorning his head. From what it seems like, Chewbacca disfigured this gungan years ago, so he tells what appears to be a Bounty Hunter. With that, the issue ends.

I’m really liking where this series is taking us. I’ve always wondered how Luke learned to fight, because if you think about it, he never had training prior to Obi Wan. After Obi’s death, he had Yoda train him and even then Yoda never really taught him combat with a lightsaber, just mostly about the Force and how to use it. So now we’re seeing a little bit more of his training.

Until next time…
May the Force be with you always.

Star Wars #009 (comic)

Star Wars 009

Issue #009.

The issue starts off with Luke chasing after the thief who stole his lightsaber in the bar on Nar Shaddaa. Rather, his father’s (Anakin) lightsaber. Eventually, after what seems to be a short chase, Luke retrieves the lightsaber, only to be halted by a Hutt named Grakkus, whom looks incredibly different from other Hutts we’ve seen so far. He sports cybernetic spider-like legs, along with some serious space roid issues. He also sports a necklace made of lightsabers.

grakkus the hutt

Grakkus is accompanied by Magnaguards, which were relics from the Clone Wars (General Grievous had some as bodyguards). Luke ends up dueling with the two Magnaguards, but Luke isn’t well trained in the Force nor saber techniques, causing him to tire during the bout. Grakkus seizes the opportunity and punches Skywalker, knocking him unconcious.

During this time, Leie, Han, and Sana (Han’s assumed wife) are in the midst of TIE fighters and their pilots, moving in to pick up Leia. Sana suggests for Han to come with her to retrieve the bounty on the Princesses head, but he reveals to her than he too has joined the Rebel Alliance, causing him to be a wanted man, especially after he had a hand in the destruction of the first Death Star.

Upon this news, Sana changes her mind and allows Han and Leia to board her ship. I wonder if this shows that Sana truly cares for Han, since she denies the bounty on the Princess, which is obviously quite a lot of credits, in order to keep Han safe. Perhaps, there is more to her plans than shown here and we must wait for future issues to see the outcome.

The story reverts back to Luke on the Smuggler’s Moon, being unconcious and awoken by Grakkus, still accompanied by Magnaguards, he holds a holocron in his hand. He tells Luke to open it, giving the young untrained Jedi five seconds before he is to be killed if he cannot activate it. The panels show them to be in a large warehouse with Jedi, and maybe Sith, relics all about. As Grakkus counts from one to five, Luke closes his eyes, while still denying he’s able to open the holocron, he attempts to concentrate on the Force.

As Grakkus reaches to the count of Five, Luke activates the holocron. Not just the one in Grakkus hand, but all of the holocrons in the immediate area. I believe this shows just how strong Luke is with the Force. He is untrained, yet like his father, he shows quite the strength in and with the Force. The holocrons around him show Jedi Masters speaking into them, one being of Jedi Master Phin-Law Wo from the Jedi temple on Vrogas Vas. One thing that I found interesting is, the holocron that Grakkus held, the one he requested Luke to open, shows Jedi Master Shaak Ti, the female Togruta, whom was part of the Jedi Council during the Clone Wars.

Seeing Lukes power in the Force, Grakkus states that Luke is now his property and he’ll be taken to the GameMaster of an Arena and that Grakkus is expecting guests for what it sounds to be a party.

The panel then switches to Leia, Sana, and Han uboard Sana’s ship, which looks incredibly like a different version of the Millenium Falcon. They fly and dodge TIE fighters hunting them down.

Once again, the panel shifts, but to Mon Mothma, Admiral Ackbar, and General Dodonna standing around a holotable, receiving transmission from R2-D2 about Luke Skywalkers where abouts and distress. They speak of not being able to rescue Luke, due to it being Nar Shaddaa and sending a remote squad in would more likely be suicide for the Squad and if they show force by sending troops in, it may lead to a dual front of having to fend off the Hutts and the Empire; however, the panel cuts to Chewbacca with C-3PO. Chewie has his bowcaster in hand, roaring about. 3PO then translates that Chewbacca and himself will be leaving to rescue and aid Luke, thus ending the issue.

I wonder if this is where the Chewbacca comic will start off, showing what happens with Chewie (without Han and only accompanied by 3PO), on a rescue mission to save Luke. The main comic series could continue following Han, Sana, and Leia. We’ll just have to wait and see.

May the Force be with you always.
